Yule has always been a Pagan holiday and celebrates the birth of the Sun God. Actually, quite a few Gods hold Yule to be their birthday including but not limited to Ra, Cronos, Lugh, Mirthra, and Odin. The giving of gifts, the Yule tree and the Yule log, the wreath and many other Yule time traditions are rooted in early Paganism.
