Melody was a special little girl. Always happy, always helpful, with a true heart of gold. In fact, Melody just seemed to live to help people and to bring sunshine into their lives.

As Melody walked by the really big office building, she happened to hear Claire. Claire was whispering a prayer as she nervously stood outside of the building, trying to get her nerve up to go inside.

Claire was scared you see. She was applying for a new job this day, a job that would pay her enough to take care of her kids, enough that she could quit her second waitressing job and spend time with them. Enough that she could show the courts that their father was wrong about her being able to care for them, and not take them away from her.

But, Claire was very scared. She knew in her heart she could do the job, but she couldn't show them on paper that she could, and she figured that's all they'd want to see. She knew she could tell them of what she knew, if only they'd listen, but she was nervous and didn't know if she'd be able to find the words. She knew she didn't have a chance, but she had to try, had to try for her kids, so she straightened her back and went inside.

Melody, being the caring little girl that she is, went into the building behind Claire. She just felt that she had to make sure the nice lady was okay.

The appointment time drew near, and Claire started to shake, her nerves were so bad. She just knew this was a waste of her time, they wouldn't hire her, and she was going to lose her kids. She was about to get up and leave.

Melody saw how bad the nice lady was feeling, so she walked up and hopped onto the couch next to Claire. She couldn't think of much to do to help, so she just hugged Claire super duper close, and told her that everything would be okay.

Claire seemed to settle down at this, and thought maybe, just maybe, this will be all right.

The business man then called Claire into his office. He knew she didn't have any papers to show what she could do, and he was going thru the motions. He asked a few questions, but mostly he just sat there, looking bored. You could tell he was not really listening to what she was saying. This again started to unnerve Claire, but she went on.

Well, Melody didn't think that this was a nice thing for the man to do. He didn't have to hire the nice lady, that was true, but he should at least be polite.

Being the tiny thing she was, the man didn't know Melody was there, until she whispered in his ear. "Mister, you're not being very nice. This lady is trying very hard for you, you should listen to her. It's only polite".

The man shook himself a bit, and he started to listen to what Claire had to say. She was very knowledgeable, and she was presenting herself in a very good way.

"Claire, I'm sorry to interrupt" the man said. "I don't think I need to hear any more. I think you're just what we've been looking for".

Claire almost cried, she was so happy and relieved. "She whispered "thank you" as she briefly lowered her eyes, and Melody gave her a great big happy hug and then left the room. This made her very very happy.

It was still sunny outside when Melody left the big office building, and she thought she'd go walk thru the park and see the pretty flowers.

She wondered this way and that, through the trees, over the hill, and jumped back and forth over the little stream.

She came to a little dirt pathway, one that the animals must use, because it didn't look like a people path, tiny and overgrown and not all trampled down, and found a little boy, sitting on the ground crying, for he had wondered away from his momma, and now he was lost.

His name was Benny, and he was 5, just like Melody.

Benny was starting to get scared. It was starting to get dark, and he didn't know which way to go. His momma had told him not to wonder off, but he knew he'd be okay, so he didn't listen to her, and now he couldn't find his way back.

Sometimes he could hear his momma calling his name, but the trees did funny things with sound. Sometimes he thought she was over there, and sometimes he thought she was around the other side, but every time he tried to follow her voice, he couldn't find his way. And momma was scared too, he could hear it in her voice. Benny tried to call out and answer momma, but she never seemed to hear.

Melody put a big smile on her face. "It's okay, I'll help you find your momma. I never, ever get lost in the woods".

Melody listened for a second, very closely and carefully to Benny's momma's voice, and knew just which way to go. She reached down and took his hand, and then she started to walk him thru the trees. Benny was really scared at first, but he could hear momma's voice, and it was getting stronger with each step he took.

They came out of the trees by the old swing set in the park, and there, not 20 feet away, stood Benny's momma. He ran to her, and into her arms, and they were both so happy that they were crying happy tears, and this made Melody happy too. And Momma kept whispering, over and over, "thank you, thank you so much for bringing him back to me".

Melody smiled, and turned and walked away. It was time for her to head home for the day.

Melody followed the path home, as she did every day, and there at the end of the path she saw her Father. It was so very nice, for each time she came home, either her Father or her Mother were always there to greet her, no matter what was happening in the world.

Melody ran up and leaped into her Fathers arms and hugged him close. "Hi Daddy. I'm home. Did you miss me lots and lots?"

God hugged her close to his chest and smiled down on her, and he laughed. "Melody honey, you're so sweet. Did you know that in all the wide world, you're the only one that calls me that? And of course I've missed you. How couldn't I?

He set her down on the ground, took her hand and together they walked up the path.

They got home, and Mother had just gotten there ahead of them, so Melody ran up and gave Her a great big hug too.

"Did you have a good day today Sweetie" he Mother asked, feeling the little arms wrapped around her neck.

"Oh yes" she said. "It was a beautiful sunny day, and I got to help 2 people, which makes me so very happy, and I saw a really pretty butterfly. It had yellow wings with bright red spots on it. Only one thing could have made it better".

Now, this confused her Mother and Father a bit, so they asked Melody what she meant.

"Well, I just wish I had some wings, so I could fly thru the air, and be beautiful like an angel. Then, everything would be perfect". God smiled down at her and chuckled under His breath. "I know a thing or two about angels" He said, "and if you really want wings, just look over your shoulder and you'll see them there".

Somewhere, almost out of hearing, a small bell tinkled, and Melody looked over her shoulder and saw that she did in fact have wings upon her back. Feathers of silver, like moonlight made solid.

She was so happy, she jumped up and down, and her smile beamed brighter than the sun shining down from the sky.

"Yippie!!!! I have wings. Now, I can be just like an angel!!!"

The Goddess smiled upon her. "Melody, you are a song of joy, just like your name. You have the innocence of youth, and a heart as big as the world. Whether you had wings or not, you always have been, and always will be, the Perfect Angel".

And Melody laughed in joy and flew off to show her brothers and sisters.
